  • Himachal extends Round 1 joining to 4 September, and rules out any further extension

Candidates allotted a seat in Himachal Pradesh’s first round have until the end of 4 September 2026 to complete their admission. Atal Medical and Research University has extended the last date for MBBS and BDS Round 1 admission for the 2026-27 session, and has attached an unusually direct warning to it.

The notice says that no further extension of the admission date shall be allowed beyond 4 September. Counselling authorities often leave themselves room on a joining deadline. This one has closed that room in writing.

    What the extension covers

The extended date applies to completing the admission formalities at the allotted college for the first round of counselling, for both MBBS and BDS, for the academic session 2026-27. It is a joining extension, not a fresh allotment and not a new choice filling window.

The notice has gone to the Director of Medical Education and Research, who chairs the Prospectus Review Committee, to the university registrar, and to the principals of all government and private medical and dental colleges in the state, so the colleges have been told to expect candidates through the extended date.

Why the deadline is the whole story

A candidate holding a Round 1 allotment who does not join by the stated date is treated as having given up that seat, and in most state schemes that also affects eligibility for the rounds that follow. With the authority ruling out any further extension, there is no version of this where waiting improves the outcome.

If you are travelling to a college today, carry the full document set rather than a partial one. A verification that stalls for a missing certificate on the last permitted day is a hard problem to solve after 4 September.

    What to do now

    • Report to the allotted college and complete the admission formalities before the end of 4 September 2026.
    • Carry originals and self-attested copies of your NEET UG 2026 result, allotment letter, Class 10 and 12 certificates, identity proof, and your category and bona fide certificates where they apply.
    • Take the fee payment instrument the college requires with you rather than promising to pay later.

  • Himachal round 1 allocation is out: 948 seats, and government MBBS closes at merit number 426

Atal Medical and Research University published the round 1 provisional seat allocation for MBBS and BDS on 27 August. It runs to 948 candidates. If anything in your entry is wrong, you have until 5 pm today to say so.

The correction window shuts at 5 pm on 28 August

Write to counselling.amruhp@gmail.com. AMRU’s notice, number AMRU/(COE)-Admission-120/2026-27(MBBS/BDS)-4856 dated 27 August 2026, asks for any discrepancy in the merit to be reported by 5 pm on 28 August 2026. Send it now if you need to; the list moves on after that.

These are Himachal merit numbers, not NEET ranks

The allocation list carries a Merit No column and no All India Rank anywhere. Every figure in this article is an AMRU merit number from the Himachal MBBS/BDS list, running from 1 to 2,736. Compare one of these against a NEET All India Rank and you will draw the wrong conclusion. Find your Himachal merit number first, then read the tables.

    Where the 948 seats went

683 MBBS and 265 BDS, across eleven institutions.

    College Allotments
Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College, Kumarhatti, Solan 123
Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla 102
Dr Rajendra Prasad Govt Medical College, Tanda, Kangra 102
Dr Radhakrishnan Govt Medical College, Hamirpur 98
Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Govt Medical College, Nahan 97
Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Govt Medical College, Chamba 96
Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, Paonta Sahib 95
Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Govt Medical College, Ner Chowk 65
H.P. Government Dental College, Shimla 58
    Himachal Dental College, Sundernagar 56
Bhojia Dental College and Hospital, Nalagarh 56

By admission quota: HP Quota took 738 seats, Management Quota 188, NRI Quota 22.

The government MBBS ladder, in the general pool

These are HP Quota seats allotted in the General category, which is the pool most candidates are reading for.

College Best merit no. Last merit no.
Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla 1 76
Dr Rajendra Prasad GMC, Tanda 10 124
SLBS GMC, Ner Chowk 125 178
Dr Radhakrishnan GMC, Hamirpur 87 275
    Dr Y.S. Parmar GMC, Nahan 209 361
    Pt J.L. Nehru GMC, Chamba 281 426
Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College, Solan (private) 443 636

The whole government MBBS general band closes inside the first 426 merit numbers. Shimla, Tanda and Ner Chowk fill in the first 178. That is a tight ladder, and small merit differences decide which district you spend five years in.

    Dental closes much later

Dental college Best merit no. Last merit no.
    H.P. Government Dental College, Shimla 433 661
Himachal Dental College, Sundernagar 630 872
Bhojia Dental College, Nalagarh 672 1,109
Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, Paonta Sahib 695 1,303

89 candidates who applied under HP Quota were allotted management seats

827 candidates applied under HP Quota. 738 were admitted under it. The gap is not people losing seats: management admissions rose from 97 applications to 188 allotments, and 89 of those 188 came from candidates whose applied quota was HP Quota.

All 89 sit in the four private colleges: 39 at Maharishi Markandeshwar, 22 at Himachal Dental Sundernagar, 17 at Himachal Institute of Dental Sciences, 11 at Bhojia Dental. If you applied under HP Quota, a management seat at a private college is a live outcome for you, at management fees. Check the allotted quota column on your own row before you assume otherwise.

A Supreme Court order added one seat at Chamba

The notice records, separately from the allocation table, that the National Medical Commission created a supernumerary MBBS seat at Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba, and that the seat was allotted to the petitioner. AMRU cites the Supreme Court order in Civil Appeal 2026 arising out of SLP (C) No. 18686 of 2023.

Nothing on this list is settled

AMRU’s own wording: the provisional allocation is “only indicative in nature and subject to change”, candidates “cannot claim any right over the allotted seat on the basis of provisional merit”, and it “cannot be challenged before the court of law”.

The notice also warns that a reserved category or quota claim survives only if the certificate is valid, current and in the format the prospectus specifies. An outdated or wrongly formatted certificate loses you the category benefit at verification, not at allotment. Get the paperwork corrected before you report.

  • Himachal Pradesh sets NEET UG 2026 round 1 dates, choice filling 22 to 25 August

Atal Medical and Research University has issued the revised round 1 counselling schedule for MBBS and BDS in Himachal Pradesh, following the revised schedule received from the MCC.

    The revised schedule

    # Activity Date
1 Final merit list of 1st round counselling 21.08.2026
2 Filling and locking the choices of course, college and quota 22.08.2026 to 25.08.2026
    3 1st round provisional seat allocation 27.08.2026
    4 1st round final seat allocation 29.08.2026
5 Date of joining the allotted college and course 01.09.2026 to 03.09.2026

    Two things to note

There are two allocations, not one. The provisional allocation on 27 August is not the final word; the final allocation follows on 29 August. Do not make travel or payment commitments on the provisional list alone.

Locking is inside the 22 to 25 August window. Filling and locking share the same four days, with no separate locking period afterwards.

The university notes that any change, or the schedule for subsequent rounds, will be uploaded to amruhp.ac.in, and advises candidates to check it regularly until admission is complete.

The change follows the Medical Counselling Committee revising the All India Quota and state counselling schedule on 19 August 2026. Most states are re-issuing their round 1 dates as a result.

  • Himachal Pradesh extends NEET UG 2026 round 1 applications to 18 August

Atal Medical and Research University has extended the last date for submission of online applications for the first round of MBBS and BDS counselling for the 2026-27 session to 5.00 pm on 18 August 2026. The notice cites the extension of the All India counselling schedule as the reason.

Some applications have been unfrozen for correction

Candidates who had already submitted applications under the EWS category and under the category of Wards of Ex-Servicemen and Wives of Defence Personnel have had their forms unfrozen so they can make corrections through their login.

Those candidates are directed to complete three things within the prescribed time:

    • Update or select the correct priority, strictly as per the priority mentioned in the certificate issued by the competent authority.
    • Upload the requisite category certificate claiming the benefit, strictly in the format and to the requirements prescribed in the MBBS/BDS Prospectus 2026-27.
    • Re-check every detail entered in the application form and re-submit or freeze it.

If your form falls in either category, treat the unfreeze as an instruction rather than an option. A form left unfrozen and unsubmitted at the deadline is the avoidable way to lose a round.

  • Himachal Pradesh NEET UG 2026 counselling: apply by 17 August

Atal Medical and Research University (AMRU), Himachal Pradesh has opened the Round 1 online application for NEET UG 2026 MBBS and BDS counselling. The application form and prospectus are live on the AMRU website, and the last date to apply for Round 1 is 17 August 2026, up to 11:55 PM.

The counselling covers admission to government and private medical and dental colleges in Himachal Pradesh for NEET UG 2026 qualified candidates.

    What to do now

    Prospectus addendum (14 August)

AMRU has issued an addendum to the MBBS/BDS counselling prospectus 2026-27. Two points add appendix certificates for claiming exemptions (Appendix 21 and Appendix 13). The third point notes that the tuition fee for BDS state and management-quota seats in private un-aided dental colleges has been raised by 5% for 2026-27; AMRU says the revised BDS fee structure will be notified separately. MBBS fees are not affected by this addendum.
