The Karnataka Examinations Authority has set out what happens next for the first round of UG medical and dental admission, and it changes the status of the result published on 23 August. That result was provisional. KEA will now re-run the allotment and publish a revised final result.
If you have an MCC seat you want, act on 25 or 26 August
Candidates who were allotted a seat in the MCC first round and intend to take it must exit KEA counselling by logging in to the KEA website on 25 or 26 August 2026 and selecting Choice-4 (Exit).
That is a two-day window, and it is the only action this notification asks any candidate to take.
Everyone else may be upgraded without doing anything
The point of collecting those exits is to reuse the seats they vacate. In KEA’s words, in order to make use of the medical seats cancelled through Choice-4 by candidates taking MCC seats, and to make such seats available to eligible first-round candidates as per recent orders of the High Courts, KEA will re-run the first-round allotment for medical and dental courses.
Two things follow from that, and both matter:
The re-run uses the options you already entered. KEA states plainly that no changes to existing options will be permitted. There is nothing to edit and nothing to re-submit.
You may move up. The revised first-round result will be published “with candidates being considered for possible upgradation to higher-order options seats, subject to seat availability and applicable allotment rules”. If a seat you ranked higher gets vacated, the re-run can give it to you.
The order of events
- Provisional first-round result — published 23 August 2026
- MCC seat holders exit via Choice-4 — 25 and 26 August 2026
- KEA re-runs the first-round allotment on existing options
- Revised first-round final result published, with upgradations applied
- The choice-selection portal for medical and dental first round is then opened
Note the order of the last two steps. The portal where you pick Choice-1, 2, 3 or 4 against your allotted seat opens after the revised result, not before. So do not wait for a choice window to appear against the 23 August allotment; the seat you are choosing on may still change.
What not to do
If you do not hold an MCC seat, you have no action here. Selecting Choice-4 means exiting KEA counselling altogether, so it is not a way to signal interest in an upgrade. The upgrade happens automatically in the re-run.
The same notification also carries the UGCET second-round final result for engineering and allied courses, which runs on a separate track with its own Choice-1 rules and a Rs. 5,000 penalty for cancelling a Choice-1 seat.
