West Bengal’s medical counselling committee (WBMCC) published the Round 1 seat allotment result for NEET UG 2026 on 31 August 2026. The list covers 6,422 seats: 5,833 in MBBS and 589 in BDS.
The result is provisional. All 581 pages of the list are headed “Provisional Seat Allotment Result Round-1”, and a provisional list can be revised before the final one is declared.
Where Round 1 closed in government colleges
The ranks below are median closing ranks for state-quota seats in West Bengal’s government medical colleges. The median is the middle value across colleges: half closed at a better rank, half deeper. Individual colleges vary widely, so read these as the shape of the round rather than a cut-off for any one college.

Government-quota seats inside private and deemed colleges close much later. Open closed at a median of 80,686 there, OBC at 98,701 and SC at 2,70,129.
West Bengal has changed how OBC seats are allotted
Through 2025, West Bengal allotted OBC-A and OBC-B as two separate pools. The 2026 Round 1 list has neither. It carries a single OBC category, and the seat matrix WBMCC published on 25 August 2026 has one OBC column.
That single pool is smaller than the two it replaced. Measured on state-quota seats in government colleges, OBC-A and OBC-B together took about 17% of Round 1 allotments in 2025. The single OBC pool takes about 7.6% this year. Over the same comparison, unreserved has gone from about 45% to about 55.5%.
So this year’s closing ranks and last year’s are not measuring the same thing, and we are not publishing a year-on-year comparison for West Bengal. The Open median has moved from 29,129 in Round 1 last year to 36,975 this year, while the unreserved pool now holds roughly ten percentage points more of the seats. How much of that movement is the larger pool and how much is competition cannot be separated from the allotment data alone.
Two new private medical colleges
Two colleges are in West Bengal’s counselling for the first time this year, both listed as private institutes in WBMCC’s participating institute list:
- PKG Medical College & Hospital, New Town, Kolkata, with 100 MBBS seats (33 state quota, 57 private management, 10 NRI).
- SKS Medical College, Durgapur, with 150 MBBS seats (50 state quota, 100 private management).
What to do next
WBMCC’s revised Round 1 schedule (Memo No. HFW-23099/320/2026/M/2190 dated 20 August 2026) sets reporting and admission for 1, 2, 3 and 5 September 2026, from 10 am to 4 pm. Note that 4 September is not a reporting day: these are four separate dates, not a continuous window.
Where you report depends on the college. Candidates allotted to private medical colleges are to complete admission at government medical colleges in Kolkata rather than at the private college itself, and WBMCC has said it will publish a separate notice about this. Candidates allotted to private dental colleges report at Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College. Carry the original documents, the college fee and the bond, and the admission follows physical document verification.
