St John’s Medical College, Bengaluru has released its MBBS admission bulletin for the academic year 2026-27. The bulletin, hosted on the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) website, sets out 150 sanctioned seats, the fee, the nine seat categories and who can apply. Admission is through KEA counselling, in line with the Government of India policy for minority institutions.
St John’s is a not-for-profit minority institution run by the Roman Catholic Church and affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). If you are aiming for a seat here through Karnataka counselling, these are the numbers and rules that matter.
Seats and fee
- Total sanctioned MBBS seats: 150.
- Fee: Rs 8,11,110 per year, including RGUHS fees. Hostel fees are extra.
- Counselling body: Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
The nine seat categories
- All India General Open Merit — 10
- Institutional Staff Quota (Karnataka) — 10
- Roman Catholic Christian Religious (Nuns/Priests) — 25
- Roman Catholic Christian Tribals — 10
- Roman Catholic Christians of Scheduled Caste origin — 10
- Native (Local) North Indian Roman Catholic Christians — 10
- Roman Catholic Christians of Karnataka State — 10
- Roman Catholic Christians All India Open Merit — 55
- Karnataka State Open Merit — 10
The All India General Open Merit and Karnataka State Open Merit seats are open to all candidates, regardless of religion or community. If any seat in a reserved category stays vacant, it moves to the Roman Catholic Christians All India Open Merit category.
Who can apply
- You must have qualified in NEET UG 2026.
- You must be an Indian citizen and have studied in India for at least 7 continuous years, including Class 10 and Class 12. There is no NRI or OCI quota at St John’s.
- You must have completed 17 years of age on or before 31 December of the year of admission.
- You must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with a minimum of 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka, the minimum is 40%.
The social service bond
Selected candidates must sign a social obligation service bond. You agree to serve for two years in a designated hospital or health centre in a medically underserved area of the country. If you do not complete this service, the penalty is Rs 25,00,000, on top of the full course fee and bond penalty rules in the bulletin. Read this clause carefully before you accept a seat.
Verification note for St John’s claimants
KEA has said that candidates who claimed Category RC-2 to RC-8 in St John’s must appear in person for document verification at the Medical College Council Room, ground floor, St John’s Medical College, Koramangala, Bengaluru. Category RC-1 (All India General Open Merit) and Category RC-9 (Karnataka State Open Merit) candidates need not appear for this verification.
