On 3 August 2026, the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee issued a clarification (Notification No.10/SCS1(1)/2026) on how state MBBS and BDS counselling will run this year. The short version: state counselling rules do not change for 2026-27.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has brought in new steps for All India Quota seats: Freeze and Float categories, online document verification for Float candidates without physical reporting, and digital seat surrender on the MCC portal. Many Tamil Nadu students asked whether these apply to state counselling too. Here is how AIQ counselling works.
What the Selection Committee said
- Tamil Nadu keeps its existing state counselling policy for 2026-27.
- The state already runs centralised document verification: certificates are checked at the application stage, and physical verification happens at the college when you report for admission.
- Online resignation is already in place. Every seat resignation must go through the official portal (tnmedicalselection.org). Offline resignation is not allowed.
- Upgradation from Round 1 to Round 2, and Round 2 to Round 3, already exists. The rules are in the State Prospectus.
- All seats (Government, Management, Minority and NRI) follow Government Orders G.O.(D) No.667 and G.O.(D) No.695 and the State Prospectus 2026-27.
- Any move to match national rules will come only in later years, with advance notice.

- Follow tnmedicalselection.org for the schedule and every notice.
- Read the State Prospectus for the freeze, upgrade and resignation rules.
- Do not mix up AIQ (MCC) rules with Tamil Nadu state counselling rules.
