  • Tamil Nadu extends NEET UG 2026 round 1 choice locking to 24 August

    The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research, has modified the round 1 schedule for Tamil Nadu MBBS and BDS admission, following the revised UG state schedule released by the MCC on 19 August 2026.

    Note that locking is included in the 24 August deadline, not just filling. An unlocked list is the standard way candidates lose a round, and Tamil Nadu gives no separate locking window afterwards.

    The change follows the Medical Counselling Committee revising the All India Quota and state counselling schedule on 19 August 2026. Most states are re-issuing their round 1 dates as a result, so check your own state even if you are not applying here.

  • West Bengal reopens NEET UG 2026 registration, allotment moves to 31 August

    The Directorate of Medical Education has issued a revised tentative schedule for round 1 of West Bengal NEET UG 2026 counselling, covering State Quota, Private Management Quota and NRI Quota seats.

    Two things specific to West Bengal

    Verification comes before choice filling, and only verified candidates can fill choices. The verification slots are 21 and 24 August at your designated college. Miss the slot and the choice-filling window that opens on 25 August is not available to you.

    Admission is not always at the college you are allotted. For all private medical colleges the admission process happens at different government medical colleges in Kolkata, and for all private dental colleges at Dr. R. Ahmed Dental College. A separate notice will name the venues. Turning up at the private college itself would be a wasted trip.

    Reporting requires the original documents, the college requisite fee and the bond, after physical document verification.

  • Uttarakhand extends NEET UG 2026 round 1 registration to 24 August

    The Uttarakhand state centralised counselling board has issued a revised schedule for the first round of MBBS and BDS counselling. Registration and choice filling now close at 5.00 pm on 24 August 2026.

    Two details worth catching

    The fee submission covers both the registration fee and the security amount. Registration is only for candidates eligible under Uttarakhand state government norms who have qualified NEET UG 2026.

    The board also notes that directions later uploaded to its website will replace any conflicting term or rule in the information bulletin. In practice that means the bulletin you downloaded in August is not automatically the final word, so check the site before the deadline rather than relying on a saved copy.

  • Jharkhand extends NEET UG 2026 round 1 registration to 21 August after server glitch

    The Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board has revised the round 1 schedule for MBBS, BDS and BHMS admission, citing a technical glitch in the server. The extension covers State quota, All India quota and NRI seats.

    Registration, choice filling and editing all run together on 21 August. That is the practical catch: the board has compressed three activities into the final day, so anyone leaving it to the last date is doing everything at once.

    All India quota seats

    For the four colleges where JCECEB conducts the All India quota counselling itself, registration and choice filling also move from 20 August to 21 August, and allotment from 22 August to 23 August. Those colleges are Laxmi Chandravansi Medical College & Hospital, Palamu; Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital, Seraikela-Kharsawan; Sido Kanhu Medical College & Hospital, Dumka; and Birsa Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Khunti.

    Worth knowing if you are applying to any of those four: their All India quota is not run through the MCC.

  • Maharashtra reopens NEET UG 2026 registration for 24 hours from 20 August

    The State CET Cell has issued Notice No. 10 revising the CAP schedule for MBBS and BDS admission, after the Medical Counselling Committee extended All India Quota counselling on 19 August. Registration reopens for a single 24-hour window.

    Three things that will cost people seats

    The grievance window closes before registration opens. If your name is on the provisional merit list of 18 August and something on it is wrong, you have until 5 pm on 20 August. The notice is explicit that these candidates “will not be given opportunity to raise grievance at a later stage”.

    Registration is not complete until the fee is paid. The notice states a candidate is treated as registered “only after successful payment of the fees”. Registering at 7.55 pm on 21 August and paying later does not count, though the payment window does run two hours longer than the registration window for those who registered earlier and did not pay.

    You must click submit after uploading. Candidates who fail to upload and submit any requisite document will not be considered for the process or for the category they claimed. Uploading is not submitting.

  • Telangana reopens MBBS and BDS registration until 20 August

    Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences has reopened online registration for MBBS and BDS admissions under the Competent Authority Quota for 2026-27. Registration had closed on 12 August; the university says it is reopening in view of several requests received from candidates.

    The window

    Online registration and uploading of certificates run from 2.00 pm on 18 August 2026 to 6.00 pm on 20 August 2026. Applications go through tsmedadm.tsche.in.

    This covers the Competent Authority Quota in government and private medical and dental colleges affiliated to KNRUHS.

    Who this is for

    Candidates who qualified in NEET UG 2026 by securing the cut-off score or above, and who have not yet applied. Candidates who have already submitted their applications need not register again. There is nothing to be gained by re-applying, and re-registering risks creating a duplicate.

    Everything else stays as it was. The university directs candidates to the earlier notification and prospectus published on the KNRUHS website on 4 August 2026 for all other details.

    If you missed the first deadline

    A reopened window is not a routine occurrence and it is unlikely to be extended a second time. Two days is enough time to register but not much room for a certificate that turns out to be in the wrong format, so start with the document list from the 4 August prospectus rather than at the payment step.

  • Assam publishes round 1 seat matrix, and keeps the MBBS NRI quota in abeyance

    The Directorate of Medical Education has released the round 1 seat matrix for MBBS and BDS in Assam’s medical and dental colleges, covering the 85% state quota for the 2026 session.

    The totals

    Across 15 medical colleges there are 1,843 MBBS seats, of which 275 go to the 15% All India Quota and 1,545 remain as state quota. The three dental colleges hold 176 BDS seats, 26 to All India Quota and 132 to state quota.

    Assam Medical College Dibrugarh and Gauhati Medical College are the largest at 250 seats each, followed by Silchar at 150. Most of the newer district colleges hold 100. ESIC Medical College at Beltola is the outlier with 18 seats and no All India Quota share.

    The NRI quota is not running this year

    The matrix carries a note that matters to anyone who was counting on it: the NRI and NRI-sponsored quota for admission to MBBS for session 2026-27 has been kept in abeyance, per a Government of Assam letter dated 23 July 2026.

    If an NRI seat in Assam was part of your plan, it is not on the table this cycle. That changes the arithmetic for candidates who were treating it as a fallback.

    TGL and Ex-TGL candidates have a step to complete

    In a separate notice dated 17 August, the Directorate has told every candidate registered for round 1 under the TGL/Ex-TGL category to report to the Directorate of Tea Tribes and Adivasi Welfare, Assam, immediately. The visit is to verify TGL/Ex-TGL status and to have Annexure-VI signed and authenticated by that Director.

    This is not optional paperwork. An unauthenticated Annexure-VI is the kind of thing that invalidates a category claim at verification, after allotment, when it is too late to do anything about it.

    How Assam’s reservation actually splits

    The state quota is divided further than most states. Alongside the usual unreserved, SC, ST(P), ST(H), OBC/MOBC-NCL and EWS columns (EWS is 6% for MBBS and 10% for BDS), the matrix carries separate allocations for TGL/Ex-TGL split by Brahmaputra and Barak valley, and for the Moran, Motak, Tai-Ahom, Chutia and Koch-Rajbongshi communities. There are also small reservations for extremist violence, freedom fighters, martyrs, children of ex-servicemen and serving defence personnel, sports, and orphans domiciled in Assam, plus a central pool and a Royal Bhutan quota.

    Every one of those columns is a separate merit queue. Which one you sit in matters more in Assam than the raw seat total does.

  • Tripura opens NEET UG 2026 round 1 registration today, choice filling from 21 August

    The Directorate of Medical Education has published the full round 1 schedule for Tripura State NEET UG 2026 online counselling. The whole round runs inside eleven days, so there is very little slack in it.

    Two things to watch

    Choice filling has its own window that opens at 5 pm on 21 August, after the verification committee has finished checking documents. Registration unlocking closes at 9 am that morning and discrepancy correction at 3 pm, so if something on your form is wrong, 21 August is the last day it can be put right.

    The nomination has to be collected in person from the DME office, and physical verification of original documents happens at the allotted institution. Both are same-window activities between 25 and 28 August, and admission closes at 5 pm on the 28th. Plan the travel before the allotment result, not after it.

  • Andhra Pradesh drops the rule that barred non-joiners from later counselling rounds

    Dr NTR University of Health Sciences has issued an advisory on web options for MBBS and BDS admissions for 2026-27 that changes one of the more consequential rules in Andhra Pradesh counselling.

    What changed

    In the university’s own words, even if a seat is allotted to a candidate in one round of counselling, not joining that seat no longer stops them taking part in the next round. The advisory states directly that candidates who did not join the seat allotted to them were earlier not eligible to participate in the subsequent counselling, and that this rule has now been changed.

    This is a real shift. Under the earlier rule a candidate who was allotted something they did not want faced a hard choice: join it, or be out of the remaining rounds. That pressure is gone.

    The restriction that remains

    One limit still applies, and it is easy to miss. At every subsequent stage a candidate may choose the college they wish to join, but they will not be permitted to select, in a later round, the college that was previously allotted to them and which they did not report to or join.

    So the choice is not free of consequence. Declining an allotment keeps you in the process, but it removes that particular college from your options for good. Think of it as spending the college, not the round.

    Two other things in the advisory

    • Candidates who were unable to submit web options in the first phase can enter their options in the subsequent phase.
    • The government has provided the facility to change the order of preference of colleges.

    What to do about it

    The university’s advice is to enter every college you would accept, in your genuine order of priority, and it repeats the point twice: more options means a better chance of a seat. That advice now carries more weight than it used to, because a low-priority option you list is no longer a trap. If it comes to you and you decline it, you stay in the running for everything else.

    What has not changed is that your order of preference is what the allotment engine acts on. List colleges in the order you actually want them, not in the order you think you can get them.

  • Bihar releases UGMAC 2026 rank cards for MBBS, BDS and BVSc

    The Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board has released the rank card for UGMAC 2026, covering MBBS, BDS and BVSc admissions.

    How to download

    The rank card is available on the BCECEB portal against your UGMAC ID and date of birth. There is no common merit list to browse; each candidate retrieves their own card.

    What the rank card is for

    Your state rank on this card is what Bihar counselling runs on. It is not the same number as your NEET All India Rank, and the two should not be used interchangeably when you are reading last year’s closing ranks. A Bihar state rank is derived from the NEET UG 2026 score among candidates eligible for Bihar counselling, so it is always a smaller number than the All India Rank.

    Check the card carefully as soon as you download it. Category, domicile and reservation details printed on it drive which seats you are eligible for in the rounds that follow.
